Dutch Entrepreneurs Rate Business Climate a Six

Entrepreneurs have rated the Netherlands' business climate as 6.0 out of 10 this year, according to a report commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This marks a decline from previous years, where the rating was 6.7 in 2022 and 6.4 last year. Despite this, the Netherlands remains among the international leaders in innovation and competitiveness.

Various studies indicate that companies are increasingly less satisfied with the business environment. Factors contributing to dissatisfaction include labor market shortages, regulatory pressure, and government unpredictability. One-third of surveyed entrepreneurs gave the Netherlands an insufficient score.

Both large companies like ASML and Booking.com and many startups are expressing concerns, with some considering opportunities abroad due to easier financing options in countries like the United States.

Economic Affairs Minister Micky Adriaansens announced an action plan to collaborate with businesses to improve the business climate in the coming years. Business associations VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland view the minister's plans as a positive first step.
